We just returned from an unbelievable week at South Bay Beach Club. We stayed there with my husband, 12 year old son, my in laws and my mother. We stayed in Unit #20 which is on the third floor with an unbelievable view of the beach/ocean. This unit was wonderful as it was a three bedroom with a media room (sleeper sofa) and four full bathrooms. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could possibly want and more. Gorgeous decorations with a great outdoor screened patio. We spent all of our free time on the HUGE balcony enjoying the sounds of the ocean as you are literally right on the beach.

I saw many comments that they will grocery shop for you prior to your arrival. I never received anything about it and when I asked Faithia about it upon our checkin didn’t get the sense that this was something the front desk had any interest in doing. Housekeeping did not keep a consistent cleaning schedule as it would vary from day to day and they really don’t do much. We swept floors, made our beds, took out trash, etc. We also did not have sheets for the pull out sleeper sofa and by the time we realized this on Saturday night the office was closed and closed on Sunday as well so we had to wait until Monday for sheets.

The beach in front of the units was perfect and clean it/rake it every morning. They had numerous chairs and tables and they were empty almost every day. Never a fight for a chair/table. The Comfort Inn and Marriott were right next door and the people staying there often tried to crowd into our chairs. I saw several instances were security approached them and made them leave. (They were able to tell they weren’t staying at SBBC due to the color of the towels).

We had a driver (Raymond) who was wonderful as walking to anything was not very convenient. No grocery store within walking distance. He was able to take us to dinner and the grocery store and made life much easier. He was also very helpful in suggesting boat trips, etc.

All in all it was a wonderful trip and we are already looking to return.

We stayed in villa 8 with 2 adults and 2 younger kids.

    1. first floor is great with kids because you can easily get in and out of your room from the beach and pool. The view might be slightly better higher, but the convenience WAY outweighs that.
    2. The beach and water are beautiful. Turquoise waters, a man-made reef with good snorkeling, no rough surf.
    3. Nice small pool. Very warm. Kids loved it.
    4. Rooms are well-appointed and modern, nice furnishings. The other places we looked at all looked like your grandmas house in Florida, with floral polyester comforters, etc.
    5. Maggie up front was very helpful.
    6. The sand is very soft with few rocks. There are some rocks in the water, so you have to look where you are walking a little.
    7. Having the Marriott next door is convenient as they have restaurants and sports rentals.
    8. Never had to fight for chairs like at the neighboring properties.

    1. The room was not very clean when we got there.
    2. Hard to know when housekeeping was coming each day.
    3. It is on a busy road–if you are walking it is difficult to cross the street.
    4. Faithia, another front desk staff, was kind of rude and didn’t seem to want to help. Maybe she was having a bad week.
    5. No restaurants, coffee shops, etc on the property.
    6. Not much within a convenient walk. 20 minutes or so on a busy road to an outdoor shopping mall.

Room Tip: First floor is great for families.

The family and I stayed in Room 14 during Valentines Day weekend. The room was incredible, very clean, great views of 7 mile beach, and very comfortable beds. The room is 4 bedroom 4 bath and literally huge. It is located south of the main strip so a little quieter and less crowded. We had everything we needed as there is a reef for snorkeling 20 yards offshore. Next door is the Marriot where you could rent wave runners, sailboats, and kayaks. South Bay also has a nice pool with comfortable beach chairs. Lots of restaurants, grocery stores, etc nearby. Some experiences we would recommend would be Dolpin Discovery, of course Sting Ray City (use JM at Scotch Bonnett Charters), and Rum Point. Great restaurants nearby would be Eduardos and Ragazzi’s. At West Bay, Ernie is the manager and he is friendly and helpful. We normally stay at large hotels and I have to say the price at South Bay Beach Club was far superior to what we have paid in the past for a room of this quality. We can’t wait to come back this summer.
